Statement by the PMR Ministry of Foreign Affairs

04/30/26

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Pridnestrovian Moldavian Republic strongly condemns the bill adopted by the Parliament of the Republic of Moldova to impose new levies on Pridnestrovian economic agents under the guise of VAT and excise taxes.

By rejecting a civilized and constructive approach to conflict resolution, blocking a full-fledged negotiation process, and feigning participation in dialogue, Chisinau is using unacceptable forms of pressure in an attempt to provoke a socio-economic crisis in the Pridnestrovian Moldavian Republic.

Moldova’s attempts to impose a double taxation regime on the people of Pridnestrovie have nothing to do with the principles of the peaceful conflict resolution through negotiations and are completely at odds with the Republic of Moldova’s path toward European integration, as they grossly violate international trade rules, including EU norms and standards.

Plans to illegitimately extract resources from the socio-economic sphere of the Pridnestrovian Moldavian Republic lead to the risks of production shutdowns, job losses, reduced budget revenues, and regional destabilization. Under these circumstances, Moldova’s propaganda regarding its supposed concern for the population of Pridnestrovie, aimed at misleading the international community, is doomed to failure. The history of Moldova-Pridnestrovie relations contains no examples of Chisinau’s concern for Pridnestrovian citizens, nor any instances of the return of financial and material resources unlawfully taken from our people.

It is also telling that the Moldovan side has chosen a path of confrontation despite numerous appeals from the Pridnestrovian public, government bodies, and economic actors, while also ignoring Pridnestrovie’s initiative to establish mutually beneficial economic cooperation within the framework of the negotiation process. The hasty procedure for implementing this plan serves as confirmation of the political motivation behind Moldova’s latest blockade measures.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs calls on international participants in the negotiation process, within the framework of the mediation mission, to make the necessary efforts to prevent the undermining of the settlement process and the escalation of tensions through methods of economic strangulation.

Pridnestrovie, together with partners who support constructive approaches, will continue to take all measures to protect the interests of the multinational Pridnestrovian people.
