Vitaly Ignatiev Took Part in a Meeting of the PMR Supreme Council’s Commission on Foreign Policy and International Relations

Foreign Minister Vitaly Ignatiev took part in a meeting of the Supreme Council’s Commission on Foreign Policy and International Relations, which was held online today.

The major topic of the event was the Moldovan authorities’ plans to sharply increase the levies imposed on Pridnestrovie, which the Minister called “the final stage of Moldova’s suffocating blockade”, aimed at destroying the economic foundation of the Pridnestrovian Moldavian Republic.

He emphasized the completely false nature of Chisinau’s claims that the adoption of the relevant bill is aimed at creating so-called “equal conditions” for economic entities in the PMR and the Republic of Moldova. According to him, Pridnestrovian enterprises are already accountable to the Pridnestrovian budget, providing funding for the republic’s social sector, to which Moldova has no connection. Thus, imposing an additional fiscal burden on Pridnestrovian economic agents would place them in an unacceptable situation of double taxation and would trigger a halt in production, the breakdown of workforces, and a whole range of other negative socio-economic consequences.

Vitaly Ignatiev stated that the issue at hand poses a challenge and a threat not only to Pridnestrovie, but also to the entire region, which the Republic of Moldova intends to “set aflame” with its inadequate and ill-considered actions. At the same time, it was specifically noted that Chisinau is ignoring opportunities for transparent and civilized interaction, engaging only in a pretense of dialogue. In this context, the PMR Foreign Minister drew attention to the self-incriminating statements by the RM’s political representative that Moldova is not conducting negotiations and does not intend to sign any agreements with Pridnestrovie.

The meeting participants discussed possible political, diplomatic, and other measures aimed at countering the implementation of Chisinau’s destructive intentions. A draft appeal from the Supreme Council to the Parliament of the Republic of Moldova was also considered in connection with the intensification of political and economic pressure against the Pridnestrovian Moldavian Republic.
