The PMR Ministry of Foreign Affairs sent an official appeal to Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Romania to the RM Marius Lazurca on April 20, 2016 in connection with the confirmation of the fact that the Pridnestrovian airspace was violated by a Romanian aircraft.

Thus, as far as we know, the aircraft taking off from the city of Iasi, intruded illegally into the airspace of the Pridnestrovian Moldavian Republic sixteen times on April 17, 2016, while taking aerial photography of the Pridnestrovian territory.

The PMR Foreign Ministry drew attention of the Romanian representative to the fact that the flight of the aerial vehicle in the Security Zone was carried out without the consulting with Pridnestrovie, as well as the Joint Control Commission and the Joint Military Command of the Joint Peacekeeping Forces.

The message emphasizes that such unacceptable and unfriendly actions of the Romanian side “lead to increased tension in the bilateral relations between Pridnestrovie and Romania, as well as have a negative impact on international efforts to maintain stability in of the whole regional space”.

In this context, the PMR Foreign Ministry called on the Romanian side “to take all the necessary operational steps to prevent a recurrence of this kind of incidents related to violations of the Security Zone regimes, and intentional intrusion into the airspace of Pridnestrovie”.

The letter sent to the address of the Ambassador of Romania highlights that the protection of the state border of the Pridnestrovian Moldavian Republic, as well as its airspace, implies, inter alia, “the necessary measures may be taken to prevent or stop illegal crossing of the state border”.

“Ignoring the facts presented and trying to continue these provocative flights can become a destructive and irresponsible step, creating additional tension in the permanent complex relations between Pridnestrovie and Moldova, undermining the efforts of the OSCE Chairmanship and all international actors of the 5+2 format to normalize the dialogue between the parties”, the letter reads.
